Passport photo of my mother, Elsa Borrmann McKenna, taken in Homburg, Germany around 1927. Family lore says that she had a relative who owned a bier garden and my mother was used to having sips of beer. On the train traveling to this country it was hot and my mother overheard someone saying that a beer would taste good. My mother then proceeded to scream and scream for beer. The conductor finally came to my grandparents and said they would stop at the next town and to please get the little girl some beer. My mother and grandparents settled in New York City.
